Europe is a continent that stretches across the western fifth of the Eurasian landmass. Although geographically it is only a subcontinent which, together with Asia, forms the continent of Eurasia, it is often regarded as a continent in its own right for historical and cultural reasons. The term "Europe" is therefore not defined purely geographically, but also refers to historical, cultural, political, economic, legal and ideological aspects.
