There are many beers in the world and especially in Germany. During my years of working abroad, I tasted and had to drink dozens of local and international beers because there was nothing else available. I grew up in a small community between the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb. There are excellent beers from the Hirschbrauerei Honer But the highlight was even back then - an Augustiner from Munich. Augustiner-Bräu is a brewery in Munich, Germany, established in 1328. It is Munich's oldest independent brewery.
Beer is a beverage produced by fermentation from starchy substances and is not distilled. Hops are added during the production of this usually carbonated beverage.
Wine and beer are produced by fermenting sugar. Wines are made by fermenting sugars from plant or animal sources (e.g., honey), while beer always starts with starch. The sugar is extracted from the starch of grains (barley, wheat, rye, oats, millet, rice, corn) through malting or other enzymatic processes.
Beer has existed practically as long as agricultural cultures have existed. In barley and rye-growing regions of Central Europe, as well as in the USA and several other so-called beer countries, it is the most popular alcoholic beverage. Beer and the art of brewing are viewed worldwide as an identifying feature and an essential part of German culture, even though beer is also brewed in many other countries. In Germany, the sale of alcoholic beverages under the name "beer" is only permitted if they comply with the German Purity Law, a set of legal regulations governing beer brewing in Germany.
The alcohol content of most beers in Germany and Austria is between 4.5% and 6% by volume but can be higher depending on the type.
