Underwater world

71% of our planet is covered by water, with the ratio of saltwater to freshwater being approximately 97.5% saltwater to 2.5% freshwater.

Little is known about what happens in the depths of our oceans. Sharks, whales, and thousands of other marine creatures inhabit this fascinating habitat, and we don't know much about them. In the following pages, I will focus on the saltwater ecosystem, focusing on the fascinating creatures of the underwater world.

The underwater world in the scientific sense is a fascinating mosaic of habitats, ranging from sun-drenched coral reefs to the pitch-black deep-sea trenches. The underwater world is a complex and fascinating ecosystem that covers most of our planet. There are two main types: the saltwater ecosystem (oceans and seas) and the freshwater ecosystem (rivers, lakes, and ponds).

Saltwater Ecosystems

Coral Reefs: Often called the "rainforests of the sea," they host an enormous biodiversity. Fish, corals, anemones, and many other organisms live here in a complex symbiosis.

Open Ocean: The largest parts of the ocean are deep, vast waters. This is home to whales, dolphins, large sharks, and a variety of plankton, which forms the nutritional basis for the entire ecosystem.

Deep Sea: The deep sea is a world of darkness and extreme pressure. Organisms like anglerfish and tube worms have adapted to these conditions and use bioluminescence for communication and hunting.

Freshwater Ecosystems

Rivers and Streams: Flowing waters are home to trout, salmon, and many insect larvae. The current plays a crucial role in the way of life for the animals living here.

Lakes and Ponds: In standing waters, you can find a rich habitat for fish like carp, pike, and perch, as well as for amphibians like frogs and water snails.

The underwater world is not only home to countless creatures but also plays a crucial role in the global climate. Oceans produce over half of the Earth's oxygen and absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide, which helps regulate global temperatures.
