Protected Areas

The Philippines is one of the world's most biodiverse countries. More than 240 protected areas preserve tropical rainforests, coral reefs, mangrove forests, volcanoes, and unique wildlife such as the Philippine Eagle, tarsiers, and sea turtles. The country's protected areas are managed under the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS).

Mount Pulag National Park

Famous for its spectacular "Sea of Clouds" and alpine grasslands.

Samar Island Natural Park

Samar

The country's largest remaining contiguous rainforest, featuring extensive cave systems, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife.

  • El Nido-Taytay Managed Resource Protected Area – Stunning limestone islands, hidden lagoons, pristine beaches, and vibrant coral reefs.
  • Coron Island Natural Biotic Area – Crystal-clear lakes, dramatic karst cliffs, protected marine ecosystems, and rich biodiversity.
  • Turtle Islands Wildlife Sanctuary – One of Southeast Asia's most important nesting grounds for Green Sea Turtles.
  • Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary – A vast freshwater wetland renowned for its rich birdlife and unique ecosystem.
